Lots of pics-just a warning :) I have had two days off from work yay me! So I thought it was a good time to take some snapshots of Keats being Keats.
As I was taking his pictures I was thinking of how he always gets the comments of how much he looks like me...cause well he does.
So I decided to put some glasses on him he got with a Yo Gabba Gabba toy for his birthday to make him look more like James...it was so Harry Caray though. he was cracking me up with all his faces and "poses"
Blaze wanted in too for exactly one picture...he doesn't really need the help to look like James though. See I do have two kids!!

I caved
And I am not going to lie I am kicking myself in the ass a little bit for it. I was tired of all the beautiful girl comments and my husband had been asking me to get his hair cut for the past year (though he did say before we did it that he was ok with the curls) Keatons hair was starting to get a bit tangly and the curls were starting to fall out too if I am being honest. So we took him in and I told the lady I wanted a trim only, not a boy cut. But unfortunately as the way it is with hair places most of the time, it was more than a trim.
I seriously bawled on the way home, not like teared up but actually cried a lot...and I am not a crier. Of course I wasn't really crying about the haircut it just really hit me that Keaton was no longer a baby. I have been wanting to try for another baby for awhile ( I just picture myself with three kids) but James thinks two is enough with this economy, which I understand but I can't make my heart stop wanting it. This haircut made things seem so final to me.
My golden curled boy a couple of months ago:
The haircut, which he was clearly not happy about.
At least he was happy afterwards:
With a face like this though it is impossible to look bad. It is growing on me a bit, all pushed forward like this he could kinda pass for a British rocker. Cause that is what every mom wants for our 2 year olds right?

Happy Birthday Keats!
Two years old, so exciting yet so bittersweet. You no longer require me to carry you everywhere we go, you prefer to walk on your own. You no longer need somebody to play with you all the time. You make up your own one player games that are fascinating. Of course you still let us in most of the time but your independence is growing every day.
I love that you have never said no about anything...it has always been an emphatic "No way!" What baby says "No way"?? Things like this show me the person that you are becoming and that you will be quite set in your ways. And I love that. You are no longer my baby, you are becoming my boy.
Is it even possible this was just a year ago?
Let's get this party started Travolta style.
I finally got my color yellow shots in Lauren ;)
Since he kind of has a 70's look going on here I played up:
Official two year portraits coming up soon....with the official first haircut (yes I caved)

Picture me caring..
Thanks for all the picture suggestions everyone gave me to get me out of a funk :) I will be using all of them this week.
The first one was from Tara, who suggested a photojournalistic approach of my kids..say for example reading a book.
So tonight when Blaze was working on his Book-It I snapped a picture:
Apparently the flash only needs to go off once before he notices:
And then the shirt that you thought was so funny and cute shows its true colors:
Ok, so I still think the shirt is cute and so appropriate.

Ugh!
I seriously feel so, so uninspired right now. And I hate that feeling. Anyone want to give me an assignment lol ;)
I feel like this:
And I just want to feel like this:
Winter needs to just go away...or my taxes need to get here so I can buy myself a small toy to inspire me ;)
Shout out to the awesome Heather who posted this cool tip for a makeshift macro.
I had fun playing with it though I don't have very steady hands so they aren't that sharp.
A shirt of mine, w/out the makeshift macro:
And in close detail with the makeshift macro:
And of course the obligatory droplets shot:
Totally making me want a real macro lens!

MIA
I was MIA yesterday cause it was my birthday...or as I am going to start referring to it barfday. I am just so over birthdays and getting older...I hate it! But my good friend Heather told me, "You're 28, you're hot...who cares" God Bless her silly little almost 24 year old self.
I got my presents from my hubby a few months ago...tickets to see Ben Folds which was amazing times 10 and a new phone, so I just spent the whole day hanging from him which was awesome. That was a crazy run-on sentence. Am I the only one who feels birthdays should be a mandatory day off of work?
I told myself I was going to take a self portrait every birthday...I lasted all of 5 minutes. I really hate my picture being taken (so, so not photogenic..I am way cuter in person lol)...add into the mix having to get everything set up, run back and forth to the tripod...it's not good.
This was the best of the 10...see my exuberant "I love this!" smile ;) Or is it more of a "I am so done with this" smirk...which I guess is my usual smile lol
Next year I should have my hubby take my picture cause I actually love the ones of me he has taken in the past.
In fact I am going to post one he took a couple of months ago to redeem myself...and I can cause it's my birthday so I get to do whatever I want ;)

Cheez it's! Cheez it's!
Some of my readers will get the youtube reference title lol.
I am sure you are all tired of looking at my attempts to learn lights so I promise I will post something new soon.
I am having the hardest time with processing these shots...they don't need much (maybe the brightness pulled back a bit) but I feel weird not doing anything. I am custom white balance too but they look a bit off-blah! I feel like I took a step back this time. If anyone has any advice I would love it!
Here are a few shots of my baby from the other day though, if nothing else I love all his expressions. They wen't taken for good comp or anything really just practicing.
I don't know why but on my computer sometimes if I use a dark background paper (but not black) it sometimes looks a little pixelated...but it always prints fine. Weird.
Cheez it's always guarantee a smile, I did a little honey action on the first one.

The hubster
This picture was actually taken over a month ago (the 2nd day I had my lights I think and well before the ones below). I just haven't had time to edit anything new and wanted to post :)
For those that asked my lights (well I guess just light) right now it's just one AB800. I want to get used to one light before I add more into the mix. The setting for most pictures below were ISO 100, F/4 SS 125.
I am so lucky to have a man who doesnt mind me taking his pictures anytime I want -though he could shave a bit more ;)
P.S. New fave music Amy Seeley, check her out!

More Brody
Here are a few more pictures of my nephew from a couple of weeks ago. It was one of my first times really playing with my lights (in a pretty tight space), and there is a lot for me to learn. I love all the pictures but by the end after I really moved the lights around a bit I was seeing what different placement could do. I love the chance to learn something new.
When a subject is this insanely cute there is no messing up the pictures though.
I like a square crop here...the aloof look and hand under the chin is model perfect lol.
I love how all three month olds just have this nervous look about them.
Pure adorableness.
The b/w version of the last one:

It's 2009!
Ok so I am 3 days late on commenting on the new year but late is better then never. I am really having a hard time believing it's 2009 already. Is it just me or is time just moving so much faster these days. I can't believe I will be 28 in just a four days...and my baby will be 2 in just twenty-one days!
My goal for 2009 is to really slow down the time by really enjoying moments...meaning more snapshots, less portraits of my kids-being with them more than watching them. Another goal is to really learn how to use my lights (which kind of conflicts a bit with my previous goal lol) And of course the obligatory weight loss goal but I am not as concerned with that one.
So with that being said here are a few snapshots of Keats that I took over the past couple of days, playing with my flash.
He loves wearing Jame's hats.
And bothering his poor sick brother:
I just love this kid so much! I had to trim his hair up a tiny bit when I saw how in his eyes it was before.
